This extremely simple and surprisingly effective muzzle brake comes standard on the Ak-47 designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is designed to direct some of the rifle's muzzle blast upwards and right, reducing the muzzle climb and rightward drift during rapid fire. Certain after market brands come at a low cost and have both left and right-side plunger cutouts, so that left-handed shooters can also benefit from this design by locking it into the leftward-canted position to counteract their tendency for the muzzle to drift to the left.
