Bar armour, also known as slat armour, cage armour, or standoff armour, is a military vehicle armour designed to protect against RPG attacks. The slatted metal grids work by either disrupting the shaped charge of the RPG warhead by crushing it, or by damaging the fuzing mechanizm preventing detonation. Bar armour has saved the lives of countless vehicle crews, but it is only effective against about 50 percent of incoming missiles. The newest concept of this armour is called Tarian RPG Armour, which is an anti-RPG netting. This design reduces weight, reduces cost, and is more effective. It also reduces maintenance time and can be added to gaps in Bar armour.
